Charles James Dunn Obituary
Known to his family as "Sonny", was born on November 4, 1932, in San Francisco, the oldest of seven children to the late Charles G. Dunn and Martha Kneisler Dunn. He passed away in Reno on July 8, 2014 while competing in a cribbage tournament.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 27 years, Caroline; his children Charles David, Kathy and Janie; his stepchildren Stephen, Lynda, Lisa and Brian as well as ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Also mourning his passing are his surviving brothers Franklin, James, William and Robert as well as many nephews and nieces. Charlie was preceded in death by his only sister Charlotte, his brother Martin and his grandson Charles Jason.>Charlie went to school in San Francisco, graduating from George Washington High School in 1951. He then worked as a lumberjack in Northern California before entering the Army during the Korean conflict. He served in the Signal Corps in Panama. After an honorable discharge, he went to work for the phone company in South San Francisco, working as a lineman and installer. At this time, Charlie became involved with the Communications Workers of America, working his way up to chief steward. He then ran for president of his local, was elected, and served in that office until his retirement. As a result of being a worker as well as a union leader, Charlie believed in and supported the labor movement throughout the rest of his life.

Charlie enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially fishing and scuba diving as well as hunting. He was also a Hunter Education instructor for many years. Another interest was vegetable gardening. His specialties were basil pesto and applesauce (both very good).

And then there was cribbage…not many of us will leave this world doing what we love, Charlie Dunn did. He collapsed shortly after winning his final cribbage game at the Independence Day Tournament in Reno. He was a very competitive player, both in club and on the tournament trail. As a result of his being a union leader, Charlie always advocated fair play.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

A Charlie Dunn memoriam will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 23, 32014, at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA.
