Charlotte P. Berk

Charlotte passed away peacefully in Laguna Niguel, California on February 12, 2014. She was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on May 1, 1921, to the late Revella and Harry Panimon. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in psychology, and during World War II she worked in New York City providing psychological assessments for the U.S. Army. She eventually moved to Chicago where she met and married Dr. Dayton Berk. They moved to San Francisco in the late 1950's, and while Dayton practiced dentistry she became immersed in volunteer work, serving as PTA President at Commodore Sloat, Aptos, and Lowell. She was a long time member and President of the San Francisco chapter of the League of Women Voters, and a Commissioner and first woman President of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. She was an incredibly intelligent woman who excelled at everything she did, and dedicated much of herself to the City of San Francisco. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by Dayton. Survivors include daughter Ellen (Timothy), grandsons Thomas and Charles, four nieces, one nephew and countless cherished friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 11:00am at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma.
