April 28, 1946 - July 30, 2014Doug shared a 25-year love-filled marriage with Lillian Hames. Together, they raised daughters Alison, with whom he hiked many National Parks, and Alexandra, whom he proudly cheered on in softball, Little League, and life.
A devoted Giants fan, Doug helped facilitate construction of AT&T Park, one of many enhancements to San Francisco he helped turn from vision to reality, including a leading role in replacing the Embarcadero Freeway with an acclaimed boulevard and transforming Crissy Field.
Doug earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Iowa. He served as City Planning Director in Portland, a top U.S. Department of Transportation official, and Deputy Mayor for Transportation in San Francisco before opening a successful consulting practice.
He served on the board of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and was chair of the board of Market Street Railway. Donations may be made to either group in Doug's memory.
A memorial service will be held August 28, 2 pm, at Cavallo Lodge, Fort Baker.
