94, passed away suddenly at his San Carlos home on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Loving husband, father and grandfather, Hank enjoyed imparting his ongoing gratitude and joy of life to all. Survived by his wife, JoAnn; sisters, Florence Williamson and Loretta Partington; son, Jim Dombroski and wife Shelley; son, Ron Shaffer; daughter, Michelle Conway and husband Gareth; and 8 grandchildren, Gabriel and Joshua Faure-Brac, Marisa and Jacob Dombroski; Alexander, Christopher, Andrew and Gwendolyn Conway. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Dombroski, and four siblings, Dorothy, Charles, Geraldine and Bob.
Hank was born January 19, 1919, in Nanticoke, PA, to Brona and Charles Dombroski. He attended St. Mary's High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In WWII, he served two years as a SSgt and attended Army Officer's Candidate School. After discharge, he studied Business and Personnel Management at Stanford University and began working at Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard in the Employment Office. He received promotions to Director of Navy Overseas Employment Office for the Pacific, the Director of Industrial Relations for the Armed Forces in Vietnam and the Employment Director of the Naval Air Station in Alameda. When he retired, he received special commendation from the Secretary of Navy.
Hank's engaging personality and sense of humor would light up a room. He was an avid golfer at Crystal Springs Golf Club. Singing was another passion and was a choir member at SSF's Aldersgate Methodist Church, San Mateo's Orphean Male Chorus and the Veterans Memorial and San Carlos Senior Centers.
A celebration of Hank's life to be held on Sat., August 31, 2013, at 1:30 pm, Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City. Donations can be made to the
