Jane Bolin died on Friday, January 31, after a long illness.
Jane was born in Mansfield, Missouri in the Ozark Mountains to Horace (Jake) and Ulis Davis. She moved with her family to Southern California during the Depression and graduated from Taft High School in Taft, CA in 1944. Jane attended UC Berkeley majoring in English and Spanish. She later taught high school for a short time and then worked as a radiation safety monitor at the Lawrence Berkeley Radiation Laboratory. She married William (Bill) Bolin in 1949 and the two of them embarked on a long career in international banking. They lived in various places around the world, including Guatemala and Venezuela and traveled to most of the world's countries.
Jane was an avid reader and also enjoyed watercolor painting, birdwatching and walking. She spoke fluent Spanish. She was a long-time member of Orinda Community Church.
Jane is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Gilmore of Inverness and Patricia Wade of Moraga, and by her grandchildren Amelia and Graham Wade, and long time friend Ana Ellenberger. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Bolin in 2009.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Oakmont Memorial Park (tel. 925-935-3311) in Lafayette on Saturday, February 8 at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration at the home of Patricia Wade.
