Paula Weil, 86, died March 13, 2013, in her Walnut Creek, CA home. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, her love of life, and her indomitable spirit that kept her smiling and laughing to the very end.
Paula was born February 21, 1927, in Chicago the daughter of Joseph and Anne Companion. She graduated from the University of Illinois, and later earned a Master's degree in Education before spending three decades teaching students with learning disabilities.
She spent most of her adult life in northern CA where she enjoyed theater, symphony, museums and opera. A curious mind and a life-long learner, she surrounded herself with books, and took college classes until the final few months of her life.
She was an active community volunteer who combined her love of cooking with her commitment to respond to the AIDS epidemic by becoming a volunteer cook for home-bound AIDS patients. She later contributed countless hours to the good works of the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Brian who died in 1996. She is survived by Nina, Ken (Tamara) and Dan; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church (LOPC) 49 Knox Dr., Lafayette, CA 94549 followed by lunch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charitable works of the LOPC.
