Richard passed away peacefully April 8th 2014 surrounded by loving wife Mairead, 10-year-old daughter Katie Rose, relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Richard always considered the family fortunate that his parents were able to emigrate from the Philippines to the US, just eleven months before Pearl Harbor. So, born and raised in SF, Richard attended K-8 at Morning Star, then St. Ignatius Prep, class of 1961. At UCLA, he earned a BA in Spanish; at UC Berkeley he earned an MA in linguistics. Richard then began a back-packing trip around the world; the trip lasted one year. In India he met his dazzling wife-to-be.
Richard had a 39-year career as a classroom teacher in SFUSD and as adjunct teacher at Skyline Comm. College.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service Wednesday, April 16 2014 from 12-2 at the Columbarium, 1 Loraine Ct., SF.
