Was born in San Francisco, CA on October 16, 1930 to Arthur Louis and Edith Lillian (Partridge). He died May 1, 2013, age 82, from complications of lung cancer in his native city.
Richard attended San Francisco State University for a BA (1953) and MA (1958). In between his degrees he served in the U.S. Navy from December 1953 to November 1955. After the Navy he taught English at Santa Barbara City College from 1958 to 1963. From 1963 to 1996 he was a professor of English and film at the College of San Mateo.
Richard was a big fan of the San Francisco Giants baseball team, and with his partner James Young an avid cat lover and international traveler. Together they visited 45 countries. James Young predeceased Richard on September 23, 2010. Richard will be greatly missed by his many friends.
