Obituary Condolences


William Alexander
Will Hastings passed away on November 24, 2012 after a five year battle with colon cancer. He was born in 1947 in Beaver, Pennsylvania, son of Charles W. and Sara Gertrude Hastings. He attended North Western University receiving his degree in business and transportation. Immediately following graduation, he served in the US navy during the Vietnam War. He signed on with Southern Pacific railroad in 1971 and worked his way up to the assistant general manager for Caltrain by the time he retired in 2007. Upon retirement he worked as a consultant for the Joint Powers Board.
Will enjoyed hiking, backpacking, doing volunteer trail work for the Sierra Club, trains as a hobby, history, politics, traveling, reading and writing.
He loved his family, friends and driving his Mini Cooper. He is survived by his wife, Marla, his brother Ron Hastings and his wife Rhea, and their children; his sister Hillis Malian and her children; and his sister in law Barbara Core and her children, Julia and Danny.
The family expresses gratitude to UCSF for the excellent care provided by their oncology and symptom management departments. A celebration of Will's life will take place on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Fernwood, 301 Tennessee Valley Road, Mill Valley, California 94941.
