Walter T. Conway, Jr.

Aug. 16, 1948 - June 25, 2013

Walt died at his San Francisco home of pancreatic cancer surrounded by people who loved him.

He embraced a life filled with love for his family, friends, and work. He was wise and generous and had a gift for wit and laughter. He traveled the world with gusto, getting as much pleasure from planning trips as from taking them. Both at home and abroad, Walt could navigate farmer's markets with skill and passion, transforming whatever he found into gourmet dishes. No one declined an invitation for a meal he prepared.

A graduate of Purdue University and MIT's Sloan School of Management, Walt was a computer security consultant with Milwaukee-based 403 Labs. He previously worked with Commonfund, VISA, SRI International in both London and San Francisco, and DRI-McGraw Hill. He was a frequent speaker at professional conferences and author of numerous papers.

Walt also shared his management expertise as a board member and board president for Episcopal Community Services, the largest provider of homeless services in San Francisco. He did pro-bono consulting as a member of Stanford University's Alumni Consulting Team.

He is survived by his wife, Meredith Tennent; sister Joy Britton, of Franklin, TN; brother Bill (Mary) Conway, of Indianapolis; sister-in-law Blythe Tennent of Greenville, NC; brothers-in-law Chuck (Corrine) Tennent of Brecksville, OH and David (Christine) Tennent of Corning, NY; 13 nieces and nephews, and many friends who all will miss him dearly. A private remembrance service will be scheduled later.

Donations can be made to the Walter T. Conway, Jr. Fund at Episcopal Community Services, 165 Eighth Street, 3rd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103, or online at www.ecs-sf.org.
