Wayne Alexander

88, died peacefully on April 10, 2014 at his home in San Mateo.  He was born on December 18, 1925 in Livingston, California.  He grew up in the Mission District and graduated from Mission High School in 1942.

He retired as Assistant Chief of the San Mateo Fire Department after 33 years of service.  He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the US Marine Corp in the South Pacific.  He was a life member of the Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club of San Francisco.  He was also a co-founder of the California State Fireman's Olympics.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Nancy and three children residing in Portland, Oregon; Lydia (Warren) Mixer, Kathi (Ken) Gibson and Dan Alexander.  He is survived by six grandchildren (Kelly Caulfield, Keith Richards, Anthony Scardino, Kyle Richards, Angela Barley and Daniel Alexander), nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He is further survived by his siblings; Jon Alexander of Berkeley, Jane (Michael) Marovich of Petaluma, Tom (Kathleen) Alexander of Maui, and Bernadette (Debra) Alexander of San Leandro.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Claire Byrnes. 

His Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Poplar Creek at 1700 Coyote Point Drive in San Mateo.
