Died peacefully at his Alamo home on February 7 after a brief illness. Born and raised in San Francisco, son of Irish immigrant parents Michael and Molly Conway, he attended St. Paul's Grammar School (City Championship basketball team of '32), Christian Brothers Novitiate at Mont La Salle and Sacred Heart High School (class of '36).
He served in the US Army and Air Force during WWII and the Korean Conflict. While on leave, he met the love of his life, Mary Kathryn. They married exactly one year later and remained happily together until her death in 1992.
A graduate of Chase College, he did post-graduate work at Xavier University, Cincinnati.
He was employed by Aerojet General and Lifschultz Fast Freight.
Bill is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Gayle and Tim Cusick, Jan Conway, Cheryl and Blair Edsen, grandchildren Riley and Jenna, sister Peg Fama, brother Joe, and many nieces and nephews. His sisters Marie (Sr. Mary deCarmel, BVM) and Carmel McElroy and brothers John, Mike, Jim, Tom, Frank and Pat preceded him in death.
A true gentleman, Bill loved God, his family, his country, fishing, golf, his roses, feeding the birds, a glass of good wine and Notre Dame football.
Funeral Mass will be Sat., Feb. 15, 10:30 am at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Danville. Remembrances may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep.
