William Frank (Francis) Heggli, M.D.

William, lovingly known as Bill, Pops, PopPop, and Dr. Heggli passed away peacefully on August 20, 2013. He was born in San Francisco, CA and has one brother Frank Heggli of Sacramento, CA. He attended St. Ignatius High School and the University of San Francisco, followed by St. Louis Medical University where he earned his degree as a Doctor of Medicine on June 1, 1948. On June 2, 1948, he married his late wife, Lucille (Hotto) Heggli of St. Louis, MO. Immediately following the wedding, they took the train for four days to San Francisco where they happily resided in San Francisco for over 64 years. He was a Captain and Flight Surgeon in the US Air Force from 1951-1953 stationed in Japan and Korea. Bill and Lucille were blessed with six children: Catherine Tastor, Greg (Wynn) Heggli, Chris (Kevin) Bouey, Mark Heggli, Loreen (Jon) Rand, and Leslie Heggli; 11 grandchildren: David (Jamie) and Brian (Dawnmarie) Tastor, Jennie (Marty) Scholl, Stephanie (Josh) Tang; Kelly Bouey, Michael (Linda) Bouey, Emilie (Nick) Taylor, Matthew, Anne, and Michael Heggli, Jon Rand, Jr.; and 16 great grandchildren: Madeline, Julia, Evan, Sophia, and Trey Tastor; Caitlyn, Aubreigh and Jacob Scholl; Natalie and Gavin Tang; Sonora, Lyla, and Elijah Bouey; Madison, Alexandra, and Andrew Taylor; favorite brother Frank (Norma) Heggli, nephews Dr. Charles Heggli and James Heggli; and nieces Heidi Sims and Holly Heggli.
Bill was a devoted General Practice Physician and Surgeon at St. Francis Memorial, St. Mary's, and many hospitals in San Francisco until he retired in 1989. He was an avid photographer and took home movies, enjoyed many cruises and travels around the world, could beat almost anyone in poker, planned many annual family/friend gatherings in Twain Harte and Monterey, and every Christmas Eve personally stuffed all 41 stockings hanging by the chimney with care!
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial mass on Friday, September 13 at 12:30 p.m., at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 601 Eucalyptus Drive, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations to Veterans' of Foreign Wars, Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, or Boys Town is appreciated.
