Anita Marie Quinn

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Anita Marie Quinn, 96, passed away at 9:25 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at her residence.

Anita was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Springfield, the daughter of John and Alice Watters Butzman. She married James Patrick Quinn on Sept. 7, 1940. James preceded her in death in 2002.

Anita graduated from Springfield High School and Brown's Business College and then worked as a legal secretary for Judge George Evan Howell, and later for the Illinois State Legislature. A life-long learner, she attended Springfield College in Illinois, Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) where she majored in psychology. Anita and her husband were very active in St. Joseph's Church parish and held an ecumenical prayer meeting in their home for 25 years. She was a member of Aglow, a women's Christian organization and the Carillon Bells Society. Anita loved reading, shopping, dining out and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Pat (husband, Arthur) Lindsay, Kathy (husband, Mark) Strawn, and Colleen Quinn, all of Springfield; five grandchildren, Sara Mueller, Joshua Lindsay, Jessica Hagstrom, Jake Strawn, and Lindsay Strawn; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Mate of Springfield; and three nieces and four nephews.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Father Jallas, celebrant.

Memorial contributions may be made to The , Central Illinois Chapter, 2621 N. Knoxville, Peoria, IL 61604.
