B. Gary Glisson, Sr.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - B. Gary Glisson, Sr., 81, died at 10:05 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his home in Springfield.

Gary was born Dec. 3, 1932, in Palmyra, Mo., the son of Silas Niece and Fannie Mae Dye Glisson. He married Katherine Ellen Gibbs on Dec. 27, 1955, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2006.

Gary graduated from Springfield High School in 1951, where he lettered eleven times, and attended the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was employed as a realtor in Central Illinois for several firms, and operated his own realty company, Gary Glisson Realtor. Gary was President of the Springfield Board of Realtors and a member of Illini Country Club, where he golfed 200 rounds in 1 year, the most at Illini. He achieved five holes-in-one in his life. He was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Fighting Illini.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Silas Sr., Jack Sr., William Marvin, and Charles Glisson, Sr.; and one sister, Martha Blair.

He is survived by four sons: B. Gary Glisson, Jr., Gibbs (wife, Jill) Glisson, Sr., John Glisson, and Richard "Rick" (wife, Wendy) Glisson, all of Springfield; daughter, Jenny Glisson of Springfield; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Frances (husband, Dick) Jelliffe of Harrisburg; in-laws, Helen Glisson, Mary Jean Glisson, Becky Patterson, Doug Blair, W. Joseph (Lynn) Gibbs, and Ronald J. (Helen) Gibbs, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
