SPRINGFIELD, IL - Benny Leotta, 91, died at 12:30 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
He was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Springfield, to Joseph and Mary Zumo Leotta. He married Dorothy Olds on May 31, 1947, and she preceded him in death on April 3, 2012.
Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Carmela Bollinger.
Surviving are two sons, Stephen Leotta of Springfield and Phillip M. (Jo Ellen) Leotta of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Michael (Megan) Leotta of Springfield and Emily (Scott) Hudson of Jacksonville; three great-grandchildren: Jack and Adalyn Hudson, and Ellery Leotta; and one niece.
Mr. Leotta was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving during WWII as a radio operator on B26 Bomber with 32 missions in European Theater. He retired from Sangamo Electric after 36 years of service.
Benny was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing golf and working on golf clubs during his retirement. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and photography.
Visitation: 11 a.m. - noon, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home
Funeral Service: Noon, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
Memorials may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church.
