Charles J. McGuire
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Charles J. McGuire, 88, formerly of Chatham, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born April 28, 1925, in Chatham, the son of Charles F. and Temple Gustine McGuire.
Charles served his country during WWII in Patton's Third Army, Sixth Armored Division, 69th Tank Battalion in the European Theater including battle for Bastogne and liberating the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He was awarded a Bronze Star.
He worked in real estate and construction.
Surviving are four children: Sandra (Andrew Brown) of Springfield, Tom (Kim Sepich) of Chatham, Bob of Springfield and Brenda (Don) Stephens of Chatham; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma McCulley of Chatham and Fran Millspaugh of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn, the Rev. Sara Isbell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chatham.
