Charles J. "Chuck" Meade

PAWNEE - Charles J. "Chuck" Meade, 85, of Pawnee, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 at St. John's Hospice with his loving wife at his bedside.

He was born in Camden, N.J., June 26, 1928 the son of Adam W. and Katharine Gallagher Meade. He married Dorothy Matthews November 2, 1965.

He is also survived by three daughters, Anne (husband Alan) Rader of Medford, N.J., Jacqueline Meade-Foti of Reno, NV, and Lisa Kim (husband Richard) Meade-Sammons of Las Vegas, NV, his step-son, Larry L. (wife Sharon) Gillespie Sr., of Rochester, IL; his grandchildren, Mark Rader, Gregary (wife Jamie) Sammons, Adam Sammons, Katharine "Kady" Sammons, Robby (wife Rochelle) Gillespie, Larry L. Gillespie, Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Emilee Sammons, Alanna Gillespie, Arrianna Gillespie, and Parker Gillespie, Gavin and Justice Gillespie, Danny Clark, Matthew Clark, Tiffany Clark, Aaron Linn; and a host of friends.

His parents, sisters, Ella May and Della, a step-daughter, Linda Linn, a step-son, Kenny Gillespie, and his uncle, Myles "I.E." Gallagher, preceded him in death.

Chuck devoted his life to the United States Air Force. He was a three- war, career veteran serving in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He earned a Bronze Star while stationed in South East Asia in Thailand. He retired from First Fleet as a Line Driver in May 1983. He was a life member of the VFW Post 10302, DAV Hall Hagler Post#15, American Legion Post #32, and a 40-year life member of the Stockton Elks Lodge#218.

Cremation rites were accorded by the Bisch Crematory.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 23, 2013 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the United States Air Force providing military honors.
