Cinda Gebben

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Cinda Gebben died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, surrounded by her family at her home.

Mary Lucinda Gebben was born Feb. 17, 1937, in Springfield, daughter of Donald and Claire Kelly Forsyth. Cinda was a lifelong Springfield resident, attending Blessed Sacrament School, Sacred Heart Academy and University of Illinois. She embarked on a teaching career that took her briefly to Orinda, Calif., Chicago and back to Springfield. She married Phillip Bernard Gebben on April 24, 1965, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Springfield. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and was deeply committed to her many lifelong friends.

She was devoted to the Springfield community, as a board-member of the YWCA, volunteer at Blessed Sacrament, a member of Illini Country Club and Island Bay Yacht Club, Springfield Art Association, King's Daughters Organization, Nighthawks Dance Group and the Junior League of Springfield, where she loved to dance in the Follies. She was an avid reader and gifted writer, who reached out to many with her spirited poems and letters of encouragement.

Cinda had remarkable courage and fortitude to continue to live a vibrant life after receiving a liver transplant 17 years ago. The family would like to thank the many members of the medical community, including Dr. Don Graham, Dr. Casey Muehle and their staffs, who touched her life with their care and support over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Hank Gebben.

She is survived by her husband, Phil Gebben of Springfield; daughter, Megan Gebben of Denver, Colo.; son, Brenden (wife, Renee) Gebben of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandsons, Conner and Parker Gebben of Pittsburgh, Pa.; brother, Bill (wife, Mary) Forsyth of Springfield; sister-in-law, Lynn Culler of Springfield; seven nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
