SPRINGFIELD, IL - Edgar Cearlock, 84, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at his residence.
Edgar was born March 5, 1929, in Edinburg, the son of Albert and Nettie Pumphery Cearlock. He married Mary F. Roseberry on May 17, 1953; she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1993.
Mr. Cearlock was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War where he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, and the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.
He was a driver for Springfield Mass Transit and a member of VFW Post #10302, American Legion Post #32, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #437.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Edgar; one great-grandson, Andrew Basil; half-sister, Flossie Reynolds; and four brothers, twin brother, Edward, Albert, Eugene and Harry.
He is survived by four children: Robert Cearlock of Springfield, Juliana (John) Umstattd of Avondale, Ariz., Gordon (Alan) Cearlock of Hawaii, and Diana (Robert) Meacham of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Later he married Karen, now divorced, and she had three children from her previous marriage and they were a big part of Edgar's life.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct honors.
