SPRINGFIELD - Edward "Ed" Gillituk, 84, of Springfield, passed away at 10:55 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Ed was born August 5, 1928, in Springfield, the son of Domety and Anne M. Chismar Gillituk. He married Nancy Ryan on May 16, 1953, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception.

Ed attended St. Agnes Grade School and was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School and Illinois State University. Ed was employed for three years as a Marketing Representative for Mobil Oil and then eight years at Gillituk Service Center. He then became the owner of Gillituk Service Center for the next 22 years, retiring in 1990. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of PBO #158 Elks Club and Past President of P.E.R. Elks Club. He was a member of the ISU Hall of Fame, United Commercial Travelers, and was a volunteer at Simmons Cancer Institute for three years.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, John "Jack" Gillituk.

He is survived by his son, Michael (wife, Jenny) Gillituk of Paducah, KY; three daughters: Kim Oliver of Mesa, AZ, Karol (husband, Rick) Young of Springfield and Susan Gillituk of LaVergne, TN; four grandchildren: Ryan Louise Gillituk, Joseph Michael Gillituk, Erin Mara Gillituk and Rachel Summers Wein; one great-grandchild, Brady Lyn Arthur Wein; one niece, JoAnn McCann; and one nephew, Walter Reed.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth, Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Ave., Springfield with Rev. Peter Harman, celebrant. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
