Georgiann (Lukas) Kutilek

SPRINGFIELD - Georgiann (Lukas) Kutilek, 84, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at St. John's Hospital.

Georgiann was born on February 11, 1929, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Philomena (Kuzela) Lukas.

She grew up in Chicago and Cicero, graduated from Lourdes High School in 1946, and attended the University of Illinois as a member of the first nursing class, receiving her Certificate from the Cook County School of Nursing in 1949. She married Leonard Kutilek on March 31, 1951, in Cicero. After moving to Springfield in 1966 and while raising nine children, she worked as a nurse at St. John's Hospital for many years, retiring in 1992.

She will always be remembered for all the great Czech pastries that she baked – kolache, houska, listhe, kringle, and dumplings – a skill she learned from her mother and her Czech aunts – and then passed down to her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Kutilek, in 2006, two daughters, Celia Kutilek in 1988, Leonore Voss in 2007, her parents, and one sister, Mary Lukas.

Georgiann is survived by a brother, Frank Lukas, of Helendale, Calif., and a sister, Rose Nechvatal, of Hinsdale, Ill.; three sons, David (wife, Barbi) Kutilek of Morgan Hill, Calif., Luke (wife, Barbara) Kutilek of Oakmont, Pa., and John (wife, Nancy) Kutilek of Encinitas, Calif.; four daughters, Mary (husband, Bruce) Cumming of Springfield, Jeanne (husband, Jeff) Mullins of Saratoga, Calif., Rose Kutilek of Las Vegas, Nev., and Barb (husband, Steve) Crosby of Woodland Park, Colo.; son-in-law, Tim Voss of Kokomo, Ind.; thirteen grandchildren, Sean (wife, Nicole) Mahoney, Shannon Mahoney, Sarah Voss, Andrew Voss, Jack Kutilek, Drew Kutilek, Paige Kutilek, Michael Kutilek, Emily Mullins, April Mullins, Hannah Crosby, Lukas Crosby, and Anne Cumming; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan Mahoney and Graham Mahoney; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL, with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
