Hugh S. Jones

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Hugh S. Jones, 92, of Concordia Village in Springfield, Ill., formerly of Quincy, Ill., died at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2013, at his home.

Born April 14, 1921, in Imperial, Neb., Hugh was the son of Ralph L. and Josie Jeanette Jones. He married Rogene E. Yost on Nov. 17, 1945, in Sutton, Neb. She preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2013.

Mr. Jones attended the University of Omaha, Omaha, Neb. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War.

Hugh worked for the Norfolk & Western Railway Company, retiring after 34 years.

Hugh was involved in the Boy Scouts. He was also a 50-year member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge No. 296, Knights Templer, Scottish Rite Consistory, the Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club, Belgian Hitch where he was a Past Wagon Master, Order of the Eastern Star and Elks Lodge No. 100.

Survivors include his son, David H. (Sally) Jones of Springfield, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Maury (Judy) Yost of Sutton, Neb.; five grandchildren: Andy H. Jones of Chicago, Zach Jones (Shannon) of Springfield, Michael Ackerman of Sumter, S. C., and Ashley Ackerman and Blake Ackerman both of Springfield; two great-grandsons, Ryan Cartwright and Parker Jones both of Springfield; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Rogene Jones in January this year; his parents; a brother, Robert L. Jones; and a sister, Norma Howard.

Graveside services with military honors by the Sutton American Legion Post No. 61 will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, Neb., by Pastor Lee Wigert.

There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and the Sutton Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
