SPRINGFIELD, IL - James A. Burton, Jr., 71, departed this life on May 11, 2013, at his place of residence. James was born June 17, 1941, in Springfield, the son of James A. Burton, Sr., and Eurlene Jackson, who both preceded him in death.
James was married to Cheryl N. Burton for many years. James attended St. John A.M.E. Church. He owned "Mr. Burton's" clothing store, several record stores, and sold cars at Charlie Satler's for a number of years.
James was an active member of American Legion Post #809 where he served as Past 1st and 2nd Vice Commander. He served in the United States Navy from 1959-1965.
He was one of two children and was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Mae Anderson of Decatur, IL.
He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Richard Burton and Shane Burton (Felicia), both of Springfield, IL; his daughters: Alice Hicks (Gary) of Raymore, MO, Marsha Gray (Robert) of Decatur, IL, and Carla Burton of Atlanta, GA; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services will be Friday, May 17, 2013, at Abundant Faith Christian Center, 2525 Taylor Ave., Springfield, IL 62703. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Homegoing Celebration at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
