James Albert Brown II
SPRINGFIELD, IL -James Albert Brown II, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife, Sondra; children, Eric (Vi), Heath (Traci) and Shannon; grandchildren, Kiley and Logan Brown of North Carolina; sisters, Pam (Joseph) Putnam, Patti (Mike) Torchia, and Elizabeth (Joel) Jones; brother-in-law, John Doan; eight nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Patricia Brown, and his brother, Edward Brown.
He was born on August 18, 1946, in Springfield, Ill., the son of James Albert Brown I and Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Whitley.
He married Sondra Doan on September 10, 1971.
James attended Auburn schools until 1960 and then graduated from Springfield High School in 1964.
He served in the United States Navy on the USS McCaffery as an electronics mechanic during the Vietnam War, and considered himself a Navy man until the day he died. James retired from Ameritech in 1994, served as a union steward for IBEW, then retired from Illinois Primary Healthcare Association.
He coached Dale Tuebner little league and was a Cub Scout Den Leader. James was also a die hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, Ill.
Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, Ill.
