SPRINGFIELD, IL - James B. Crawford, 80, died at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Heritage Manor.

James was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Springfield, the son of James B. and Marie Maurer Crawford. He married Lela Joyce Hovey on Feb. 23, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield.

James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an avid White Sox fan and was very involved in athletics when growing up. When he was 18 years old, he signed with the Washington Senators playing professional baseball. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Crawford of Springfield; three sons: Jim (wife, Christy) Crawford of Williamsville, Joe Crawford (partner, Tony Feldman) of Chicago, and Mickey (wife, Lori) Crawford of Springfield; two daughters, Cathy Crawford-Fitzpatrick of St. Louis, Mo., and Carol (husband, Kevin) Hagan of Western Springs; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Workman and Jean Lappen, both of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Graveside Ceremony: 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military honors by Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Dept. of Defense.
