James Edward Elledge

BEARDSTOWN, IL - James Edward Elledge, 81, formerly of Springfield, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

He was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Augusta, Ga., the son of Lloyd C. and Ruby Slocum Elledge. He married Frances Wright in 1957 and she preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 1992. He later married Eva Brown in December of 1993.

Surviving are his wife, Eva Brown of Beardstown; his children, Kay (husband, Rusty) Wright of Pleasant Plains, Joseph (wife, Cynthia) Phillippe of Springfield, Paul (wife, Leasha) Elledge of Chicago, Nancy Elledge of Springfield, Nancy Lyons of Evergreen Colo., and Cathy Carr of Litchfield; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Frances Elledge; and one sister, Dorothy Beck.

James graduated from Danville High School. He received degrees from Graceland College and Eastern Illinois University, and has his Masters Degree from the University of Illinois. He taught high school in Peotone, Ill., and then moved to Springfield and worked as a photographer for the Superintendent of Public Instruction which is now the State Board of Education. James later retired from the Springfield School District after many years of service. He was a member of, and served many leadership roles in, the Community of Christ Church in Beardstown and Springfield. He loved playing cards, collecting stamps, photography and traveling.

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, from 3-5 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 5 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Beardstown. Fellowship meal to be served immediately after the service. Private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Community of Christ Church.
