SPRINGFIELD, IL - Jerry B. Gott, 85, passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at his home in Springfield. His joyous approach to life was an inspiration to many. He brought zest to overcoming obstacles.

Jerry was born May 28, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., the son of William and Myrtle Bender Gott. He married Karen Churchman Hasara on March 8, 1985, in Springfield.

Jerry graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1946 and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a medical lab technician in post WWII occupied Japan. Jerry was five times elected Clerk of the Circuit Court and Recorder of Deeds in Jefferson County, Ill., serving from 1954-1969 and was one of the most popular elected officials from that area. He moved to Springfield in 1969 to become Assistant Director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, where he served as the liaison between the Circuit Clerks and the Circuit Courts in Illinois, retiring in 1991. He was a panel member of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. Jerry was a former member of the Mt. Vernon Lion's Club and the Rotary Club of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter, Ann Hasara Churchman.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Hasara of Springfield; three children, Dita Coe of Riverside, Calif., Jeff (wife, Mary) Gott of Bartlett, Ill., and Jim (wife, Mary) Gott of Spaulding, Ill.; three stepchildren, Ted (wife, Margo) Hasara of Springfield, Tim (wife, Amy) Hasara of St. Louis, Mo., and Mark Hasara of South Carolina; five grandchildren: Ryan and Daniel Coe of Phoenix, Ariz., Bryan Gott of Washington, DC, Kendra Gott of Spaulding, Ill., and Andrew Gott of Bartlett, Ill.; two stepgrandsons, Ben Hasara of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael (wife, Holly) Geary of Elgin; one stepgranddaughter, Melissa (husband, Gerade) Hutson of South Elgin; and two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Jane Blackard of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 , at First Christian Church, 700 South 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Rick Irwin officiating.

In accordance with Jerry's wishes his body will be donated to science following the ceremonies.
