Rev. Deacon John Dorr Wilson Jr.
CHATHAM, IL - The Rev. Deacon John Dorr Wilson Jr., 89, formerly of Pontiac, Ill., passed away into his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
John was born Aug. 20, 1924, in LaGrange, Ill., the only child of John Dorr Wilson Sr. and Helen (Thatcher) Wilson. John graduated from LaGrange High School in 1942 and later attended the University of Illinois.
On Sept. 30, 1950, John married Alverda Gyneth Olson. John and Alverda began their life together and had four children: Gail, John, Wendy and Mary Ruth.
John is survived by his wife, Alverda Wilson; children: Mary Ruth Landes of Chatham, Ill., Wendy (David) VanGiesen of Jacksonville, Ill., and Gail Howard of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; grandchildren, Madeline Landes of Chatham, Ill., Jessica Wilson (Chris) Toews of Atlanta, Ga., Laura (Brian) Meier of Minneapolis, Minn., Jaclyn Wilson (Josh) Miles of Louisville, Ky., and Jennifer (Mark) Hutzal of Osseo, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Clive Toews, Zenon Hutzal, Adele Miles and Mason Miles; one niece; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Dorr Wilson III, and his parents.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 815 S. 2nd St, Springfield with the Right Rev. Daniel Hayden Martin, celebrant.
Graveside Ceremony: Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Cemetery in Chatham.
