John "Jack" Ebers, Jr.
SPRINGFIELD - John "Jack" Ebers, Jr., 76, of Springfield, died at 5:37 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born July 11, 1937, in Springfield, to John Henry and Margaret Waitekunas Ebers. He married Ann Marie Shepherdson May 29, 1964, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Deborah Lynn (Rich) Miller of Springfield; one son, John Thomas (Leigh) Ebers of Springfield; two granddaughters, Kathryn Elizabeth and JoAnna Lynn Ebers; two brothers, Joseph (Sharon) Ebers of Osage Beach, Mo., and James (Rhonda) Presley of Kansas City, Ks.; one sister, Virginia (Jerry) Koehne of Springfield; one niece, Dana (Steve) Cross of Canton, Ohio; two nephews, Patrick (Olivia) Ebers and Ryan (Laurie) Evans of St. Louis, Mo.; five great- nieces and two great- nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
John was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign where he was a member of Chi Epsilon Engineering, an Academic Honorary Fraternity. He was the former West Branch and Central Illinois Section President of the American Society of Civil Engineers and former chapter president and Director of the Illinois Association of Highway Engineers. He loved woodworking, playing golf and was an avid Fan of the Fighting Illini, St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. He also was a member of the Anchor Boat Club.
John retired from IDOT as a Civil Engineer in 1991 after 35 years of service.
Visitation: 3-6 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Schnelle officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Grade School, Lutheran High School or the Animal Protective League.
