John Leischner

PETERSBURG - John Leischner, 77, of Petersburg, Ill., died on Jan. 19, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1935, the son of John and Clara Boehs Leischner. John married Patty Vette on Dec. 10, 1961, at Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville, Ill.

John is survived by his wife, Patty of Petersburg; a son, David (Kim) Leischner of Petersburg; a daughter, Suzy (Rick) King of Glen Carbon; and three grandchildren, Brett (Lindsey) Leischner, Brad Leischner, and Amy Leischner. John is also survived by three brothers, Charles (Judy) Leischner of Versailles, Edward (Cheryl) Leischner of Arenzville, and Bill (Donna) Leischner of Arenzville; three sisters, Carol (A. Jon) Pearson of Lindsborg, Kan., Arlene (Bill) Colclasure of Arenzville, and Linda (Jim) Six of Ainsworth, Ia.

John was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and his parents.

John graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School and later Arenzville High School in in 1953. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed restoring tractors with his son, David, and had served on the Farm Bureau Board. John was very active at the churches he attended. He had served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher. He also had served as Sunday School Association president. John had served on the Lutheran High School Board and the Lutheran High School Foundation Board. Currently, John was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Sherman. He had been Director of the Prairie Production Credit Association and had served on the Petersburg Fire Protection District Board for 32 years.

John was also a US Army Veteran and had served on the Menard County Inter Veterans Burial Unit.

Funeral services for John will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Sherman with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepard Lutheran Church, Springfield Lutheran High School or donors choice. Online condolences may be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
