Joseph George Neptune
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Joseph George Neptune, 79, died at 8:50 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 11, 1933, in Elizabeth, N.J., but lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. from a young age.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany, stationed in Baumholder. He was a member of the Elks Club for 30 years in New York and Florida.
In Springfield, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, St. Paul's Lodge 500 and American Legion Post 32. He was also a member of The Historic Grace Lutheran Church.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 32 years, Regina Hansen-Neptune; four children: Joseph Neptune III of North Carolina, Ellen Kovitz of New York, Holly Hansen and William Hansen, both of Springfield; two sisters, Blanche Bartsch and Honey Harper, both of New York; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. and Lillian E. Navarro Neptune, Sr., and five sisters: Elvira Neptune, Evelyn Neptune, Murial Preiss, Helen Neptune and Mildred Lanzisera.
Memorial Service: Noon, Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at The Historic Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Christell officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
