Joseph "Joe" Mirto

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Joseph "Joe" Mirto, 67, died at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at his home in Springfield.

Joe was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Scranton, Pa., the son of Ralph and Helen Skripp Mirto. He married Paula Hartley on June 10, 1967, in Springfield.

Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Paula of Springfield; four children: Tom (wife, Johnette) Mirto of Lansing, Kan., Christine Whitten of Highland, Laura (companion, Gordon Davis) Miller of Lake City, Mich., and Catherine (companion, Daniel Pruetz) Mirto of Cadillac, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Graveside Ceremony: 10 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the U.S. Air Force.
