SPRINGFIELD, IL - Lawnie Walter Goff, 92, of Springfield, IL passed away and into the arms of Jesus on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. He was born August 29, 1920 in Nokomis, IL to Walter Lee and Alice (Greear) Goff. He was the oldest of 10 children. Four children passed in infancy the other five were sisters, Ellen Jackson, Margaret Sicilia, Mary McDermott and brothers, Harold and Dale Goff. He married Betty Anspaugh on April 6, 1946. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2013. Also preceding him in death was one grandson, Paul Eric Turner and one granddaughter, Christa Rose Reed.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann (James) Turner of Princeville, IL and Doris Jean (Wallace) Reed of Springfield, IL; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawnie was a United States Army Veteran during WWII and after the war worked as a machinist at Fiat-Allis retiring after 30 years of service. During this time he also coached Little League baseball for 5 years. After retirement he worked for Lucky Lady Laundromat part time. He was a long standing member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Lawnie was a member of VFW-Post #4763. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Cardinal fan but loved all sports.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Lie in State: 10 – 11 am, Wednesday, April 24, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Darrell Debowey officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
