Lawrence "Larry" G. Rhodes
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Lawrence "Larry" G. Rhodes went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 8, 2014.
He was born June 13, 1937 in Nokomis, Ill., to Laura (Zepp) Rhodes, who preceded him in death in 2002.
He graduated from Feitshans High School. His first job was delivering Chili Man Chili for Joe DeFrates. He then went to work at Springfield Produce. He then had a lifelong job in plumbing and heating. He began this work for H. E. Burge Plumbing and Heating and subsequently became a co-owner.
He and his son then owned and operated L&R Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 2000. He also worked part time for 17 years as a Grandview Police officer and served as the Chief of Police for a number of those years.
He was a long-time member of Third Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon, Elder, trustee and President of the Married Couples Sunday School Class. He was also a past member of the Road Runners Hot Rod Club and the Grandview Dad's Club.
He enjoyed late-model car shows, bowling, Cardinals baseball, Fighting Illini basketball and Chicago Bears football. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He will be deeply missed by those who survive him: daughter, Debbie (Norman, deceased) Gill; son, Randy (Linda) Rhodes; grandchildren, Michelle (Sean) Davidson and Randy (Tina) Rhodes of Rolla, Mo.; great-grandchildren: Lauren Davidson and Zachary Rhodes, Shylah Black and Kody McClellan, all of Rolla, Mo.; one uncle, many cousins and a host of longtime business associates and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery a later date.
