Lowell L. McNaught
AUBURN, IL - Lowell L. McNaught, 80, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Maurice and Frances Ross McNaught.
He married Mary Alice Darst and she preceded him in death. He later married Sue Allen Fuiten and she survives.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Roger; and two grandchildren, Hunter and Kaylee Grigsby.
Lowell graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign. He served in the U.S. Navy. In his community he served on the Sangamon County Agriculture Extension Council, Auburn School Board, Lincoln Land Community College Feasibility Study, Charter Member of the Auburn Jaycees, and Charter Member of Edgewood Country Club where he was on the Board of Directors. He also served as a Director of Farmers and Merchants Bank, Famers Elevator Board of Directors, Auburn Centennial Chairman, and Board of Directors for Springfield Plastics.
Lowell was a fifth generation farmer in the Auburn area. As a licensed pilot, he had his own landing strip on his farm. He enjoyed playing golf and was very proud of his two holes in one. He also loved to fish.
Surviving are his wife, Sue; two daughters, Carla (John) Mayernick of Girard and Mindy (Eric) Johnson of Auburn; one son, David (Teri) McNaught of Waverly; one daughter-in-law, Martyne Toussaint McNaught of Auburn; one stepson, Bruce (Lori) Fuiten of Virden; two stepdaughters, Beth (Ed) Green of Sherman and Jennifer (Dan) Grigsby of Auburn; 10 grandchildren: Shawn (Kate) Mayernick, Gigi Mayernick, Phoebe, Paige, Joel and Jared Wilson, Olivia McNaught, Elizabeth Grigsby, and Blake and Sarah Fuiten; two great-grandsons, Beau and Pierce; one brother, Ross (Mary Alice) McNaught; several nieces and nephews.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Cornerstone Community Church, 231 W. Vanburen, Auburn. Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the church, Pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Auburn Ambulance or Emergency Squad.
