SPRINGFIELD – Marvin L. Van Dyke, 82, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at his home.
He was born June 12, 1931, in Vernon Co., Wisc., to Lloyd E. and Anna (Marshall) Van Dyke. He married Dorothy L. Marbold on Oct. 12, 1957, in Springfield.
Mr. Van Dyke graduated from New Berlin High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. He was employed at Sangamo Electric for 30 years and retired from Illinois Plumbing and Heating Supply. He was a lifetime member of Third Presbyterian Church for 71 years, where he also served as a deacon, and was a lifetime member of Tyrian Lodge 333 AF&AM.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Barbara (Randy) Van Dyke-Brown of Farmersville, Karen (Mark) Geever and Nancy Leon of Springfield; three grandsons, Brett and Craig Geever and Justin Brown; his twin sister, Marcella Contri, and a brother, Delbert (Helen) Van Dyke, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Thelma Smith and two brothers, Clyde and Verlyn Van Dyke.
Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until the time of a Masonic service at 10:45 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Third Presbyterian Church.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Third Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brent Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Greenview.
