Robert E. Rheude, Sr.
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Robert E. Rheude, Sr., 84, of Springfield, died at 2:49 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Robert was born April 27, 1930, in Springfield, the son of George and Margaret Imgrund Rheude. He married Lagene Runyon in 1974 in Springfield.
Robert attended Riverton High School. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps on the front lines during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Following his honorable discharge, Robert worked for Pillsbury for 10 years. He then was employed for the Laborers Union 477 as a foreman from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the NRA and the IL Trappers Association. Robert enjoyed helping others, fishing, especially commercial fishing on the Sangamon, Illinois, and Mississippi Rivers, hunting deer, squirrel, quail, and pheasant, and trapping.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Rheude.
He is survived by his wife, Lagene Rheude of Springfield; son, Robert (wife, Karen) Rheude of Springfield; daughter, Rebecca (husband, Monty) Webber of Springfield; one grandchild, Eric (companion, Savannah Scott) Rheude of Godfrey; two step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Tara Miller both of Springfield; and one great-grandchild, Maylin Rheude.
Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
Funeral Ceremony and Visitation: 4 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Pastor Fred Prince officiating and military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps. A visitation will follow from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
