Robert Edward "Bob" Heyen
PETERSBURG, IL - Robert Edward "Bob" Heyen, 78, of Petersburg passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Sunny Acres Home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1935, to Edward E. and Esther (Kleinschmidt) Heyen in rural Petersburg. They preceded him in death.
Bob married Ruth Ann Thomson on Nov. 22, 1964, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Petersburg. He graduated from Petersburg Harris High School and attended the University of Illinois. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Germany. He worked for Allis Chalmers Manufacturing at the proving grounds and the training center. He was a lifetime farmer retiring in 2004. Bob was also an avid Illini, Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Bob was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was presently serving on the Menard County Farmland Assessment Review Committee and the Menard County Cemetery Maintenance District Board. Bob was also a member of the Vintage Ag Club and enjoyed restoring farm tractors and equipment. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons in their various sports and activities.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Lori (Steven) Myers of Griggsville, Ill., and Amy (Ricky) Turasky of Petersburgl grandsons: Clayton, Joseph, Jonathon, Matthew and Michael Myers of Griggsville and Eli and Beau Turasky of Petersburg; sister, Barbara (Gerald) Renken of Paris, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Gross officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Agriculture Education Partnership- Logan, Menard and Sangamon Counties.
