ACOSTA, Ansel Jr. peacefully passed away Aug. 18, 2014, at the Tidewell Hospice Hospital in Sarasota. Funeral services Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 am at the College Hill Church of God in Christ, 6414 N. 30th Street, Tampa, FL 33610. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. He was born Oct. 23, 1949 to the late Catherine Collier and Ansel Acosta, Sr. As a child, Ansel grew up in Tampa and Sarasota, joined the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Ansel was widely known for his culinary skills which expanded from soul food to gourmet specialties. Ansel was very kind and strong, yet had an incredibly gentle soul. Ansel was active in many civic organizations. Ansel was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Stephanie; and grandmothers, Altamese and Sylvia; uncles, John Jr. and Randolph. He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Mishondra (Meme); one son, Ansel III; stepdaughter, Tycena; companion, Santana; two grandsons, Dontarius and Brandon; three brothers, Lionel (Jackie), D'evario (Tammy) and Stacey; two sisters, Annette and Wanda; aunts, Gladys and Josephine (Rev. Ronald C. Hubbard); uncle, Lyman (Janice); nine nephews, eight nephews, five great nieces; and a host of cousins and friends; special friends, Inez and Frank. The remains will repose after 5 pm Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue; and the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at 10:30 am.
