SMITH, Armin H. Jr. 91, passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2013, surrounded by family. Born June 8, 1921, he was a lifelong Tampa resident and graduated from Roosevelt Elementary, Wilson Jr. High School and H.B. Plant High School. Smith served as a forward observer Officer with the 8th Armored Division in WWII, and was awarded a Bronze Star & two Purple Hearts. After graduating from the University of Florida's school of law where he was a member of ATO fraternity, he practiced law for many years with lifelong friend, Sam Gibbons. He was appointed to the Constitutional Review Committee of the Florida Bar Association to recommend changes to the structure of the Florida law courts. Smith was an avid golfer, and was captain of the University of Florida golf team. Smith served on the board of directors of Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, as well as Commodore of Tampa Yacht & Country Club. All who knew Armin Smith, also knew of his beautiful voice. He was a member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for 31 years, & Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, where he was a member of the Gasparilla Cutthroat Chorus and the University of Florida Glee Club. He was also a member of the Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in Highlands, NC, where he spent many happy years with his family at their summer home. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rebecca Davies Smith; sons, Frank, Stephen (Betsy Urbanski); daughter, Patricia Walkup (Mike); 5 granddaughters, Shannon (Edmeads), Caroline, Bonnie (Martinez), Natalie, Sarah Beth; 2 grandsons, Richard Smith & Scott Smith; great-grandson, Smith Edmeads. Armin was preceded in death by son, Richard Edwin Smith & daughter-in-law, Debbie Hiers Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Voices for Children of Tampa Bay, P. O.
