CARTTER, Bruce Lanpher Jr. 88, died peacefully at Tampa General Jan. 21, 2014, after a short illness. He was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Marinette, WI, and was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth May Fitch and Bruce Lanpher Cartter Sr. He served both on active duty and in the reserves in the US Navy for more than nine years. On July 3, 1948, he married Carol Mary DeVries, daughter of Mary and Arnold DeVries in Madison, WI. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1947. He attended Purdue University and graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1952. He started his career as a process engineer with Ray-o-Vac Division of Electric Storage Battery Company. He started working for the state of Florida in September 1967 as a chemical engineer and retired May 1, 1988. After that he started his own business, Cartter Engineering and did consulting work. He and Carol enjoyed going dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol Cartter. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 14, at 2 pm in the chapel at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 South Dale Mabry Hwy.
