Carlos Alberto LAZANEY RODRIGUEZ

Obituary

LAZANEY RODRIGUEZ, Carlos Alberto 38, entered Eternal Peace on April 2, 2014 after 19 years, one month, eight days of distinguished service in the United States Army. Born Aug. 6, 1975 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and grew up in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, he graduated from Superior Jose de Diego High School. Staff Sergeant Lazaney Rodriguez is survived by his son, Alexandra Colin Lazaney Molina; parents, Eduardo Lazaney and Maria Rodriguez; sisters, Maribel Lazaney, Norilda Ounnarath; and brother, Eduardo Lazaney. He was currently serving as Unit Supply Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 21st Combat Support Hospital, 1st Medical Brigade unit. On Jan. 12, 1994, Staff Sergeant Lazaney Rodriguez joined the Puerto Rico Army National Guard as Airborne Infantryman, in 1994 he attended Basic Combat Training and Basic Infantryman Course at Fort Benning, GA and attended Basic Airborne Course. On Feb. 25, 1995 he joined Active Army and attended Basic Unit Level Supply Course. From Dec. 15, 1998 - April 14, 1999 he was deployed to Kuwait and July 20, 2002 - Oct. 1, 2005 he served with the Recruiting Battalion (Cleveland, OH). On Aug. 28, 2003 his only child, Alexander Colin Lazaney Molina was born. From April 19, 2007 - April 21, 2008 he was deployed to Iraq (Iraqi Surge), July 15, 2009 - July 15, 2010 deployed to Iraq (Iraqi Sovereignty), and in February 2012 assigned to 21st Combat Support Hospital as Supply Sergeant for Bravo Company. Staff Sergeant Lazaney Rodriguez's awards and decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, Army Superior Unit Award, six Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, two Oversea Service Ribbons, U.S. Army Parachutist Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge. Staff Sergeant Carlos A. Lazaney Rodriguez was an energetic, fun-loving man, who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was dedicated to leading and mentoring his many Soldiers during his 19 year career. He loved his family and friends and would surprise them with candy and food. He indulged in the culinary arts and frequently showcased his meals to his friends. His hobbies included salsa dancing, playing multi-media games, collecting action figures, reading various genres of literature, and hosting various types of parties. His favorite action figure was Aqua Man, and he was once quoted saying, "I can't choose one (action figure), when I love them all. Besides, I don't have to choose". SSG Lazaney thoroughly enjoyed watching the Miami Heat, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Los Tiburones de Aguadilla sports teams. His favorite word was "Calor!" (Heat). Staff Sergeant Lazaney's character, compassion and enigmatic personality will forever endear him to his fellow Soldiers. By paying the last full measure of devotion, SSG Lazaney stands as a beacon of selfless service for us all. He will be eternally missed but never, never forgotten. A visitation will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home- MacDill Avenue Chapel on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 9-11 am with a funeral service starting at 11 am.
