SCHUM, Dale M. 85, died on Dec. 14, 2013, at Heritage Healthcare of Ashburn, GA, after a long illness. He was born in Altoona, PA to Gertrude and Davis Monroe Schum, the last of four children. He attended the local schools until his junior year when he transferred to Ben Lippen Boys School in Asheville, NC, where he graduated in 1945. He attended Bob Jones College Academy in 1946-1947, and later New York University, Bellevue College of Nursing where he graduated as a registered nurse in 1954. Schum worked in New York, the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital, and moved to Los Angeles in 1960. He moved to New Jersey where he worked from 1964 until 1976 before relocating to Tampa. Schum lived in Tampa until moving to his niece's home in Arabi, GA in Oct. 2013. He was a gifted musician, writer and artist who also worked as a model and actor. He had a full life, and was known for his kindness and generosity. Dale Schum was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Henry S. Schum. He is survived by his sister, Frances Schum Hess and her husband, Rev. A. Clair Hess of Grand Rapids, MI; his brother David Schum of Austin, TX; 4 nieces and one nephew; several cousins, and many friends in Florida, including his care-giver Darrell Cater of Tampa. His remains will rest at the Garden of Memories in Tampa. Rainey Family Funeral Services in Cordele, GA, handled local arrangements. Private services will be in Tampa at a later date. He asked that gifts be made to the Humane Society, or a shelter for lost and abused animals. The family may be contacted through his niece, Jane Schum, Box 10 Arabi, GA 31712.
