DONAT, Daniel Karl 71, of Madeira Beach, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 at home under the care of Suncoast Hospice after a long struggle with lung cancer and COPD. Born in Philadelphia, PA on Oct. 15, 1942, he moved here in 1946. As a teenager, he worked in his family restaurant, Donat's Steak House, on Haines Road. He was a 1960 graduate of Northeast High School. He worked as a pressroom superintendant for the St. Petersburg Times from 1967-1990 and for the Tampa Tribune as a Pressman from 1990-2005. He owned and operated Dan's Auto Repair before retiring. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Sons of the American Legion, Post #273, and a lifetime member of Holiday Isles Elks Club #1912, both in Madeira Beach. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Marcy; two daughters, Melissa (Jim) Hussey of Hudson, & Kristie (Carlo) Appug-liese of Seminole; four grandsons, Connor and Ryan Hussey, Carlo and Jacob Appugliese; and a nephew. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at the American Legion Post, #273, 1 American Legion Drive, St. Petersburg 33708.
