SANFORD, Dr. Edgar J., died at his home in Tampa, Fla. June 26, 2013 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Bath, NY in 1940, the son of Dr. James Sanford and Julia Grosfelt Sanford. The valedictorian of Haverling's Class of 1958, he completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Duke University. After serving an internship and one year of training in general surgery at the New York Hospital of Cornell University, he entered the United State Navy and served from 1967 to 1969. Dr. Sanford returned to Duke University in 1969, where he completed four years of training in his surgical specialty, urology. He served on the faculty of Penn State University's Hershey Medical Center from 1972 to 1979, when he left to enter private urology practice in Elmira, NY. He later returned to academic medicine at the University of South Florida Medical Center at Tampa until he retired. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, three children, and six grandchildren: Stephanie and Jeff Colby and Calvin and Charlotte of Westport, Mass., James and Deme Sanford and Alex and Matthew of Bow, NH, and Ted and Kaori Sanford and Eleanor and Katherine of Graham, NC. Calling hours will be held at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath from 11 AM to noon on Sat., July 6. Funeral services will follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc., 355 Lexington Ave., 15th Floor, New York, NY 10017.
