FILSON, Eric Malcolm 71, of Largo passed away peacefully May 5, 2012. Eric was born in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1959, Michigan State University in 1964, and Florida State University in 1979 with a BS in Accounting. Eric was a retired senior computer analyst with more than 25 years of experience at St. Petersburg College administrative IT systems in Florida 1981-2006 and the Florida State University College of Education 1980-1981. He was a newspaper city editor and reporter for the Gainesville Sun 1968-1974 and the Royal Oak, MI, Daily Tribune 1967 with a prize winning writing record during the Civil Rights and Vietnam War eras. He enjoyed participating in the Florida Retired Educators Association newsletter and MPHS Class of 1959 reunion website, presidential biographies and libraries, traveling and photography. He is survived by wife, Monique Filson; his stepdaughter, Maureen Wingfield; his sister, Harolyn VanEvery; his sister-in-law, Susan Filson; and his six nephews, Andrew Filson, Joshua Filson, Matthew Filson, Paul VanEvery, Karl VanEvery, and Noel VanEvery. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 5 pm at the National Cremation Society in Clearwater.
