HICKS, Fred Jr. Homecoming celebration for Fred, of Tampa, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, will be held Saturday, Nov. 9th, at 11 am, St. John Cathedral, 3401 E. 25th Ave., Pastor Eddie Newkirk Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Thonotosassa. Affectionately called "Buck or Bucky" by his family. He was born in Tampa on July 14, 1958. While attending Tampa Bay Tech High School, he was voted 'Best Physique'. He was an outstanding athlete and he played middle linebacker and fullback. They called him "Diesel" because he was big in size, but quick. He graduated from Tampa Bay Tech in 1976 and accepted a football scholarship at Tulane University where he was known as "Fast Freddy". In 1979, he played in the Liberty Bowl and he graduated from Tulane in 1980. Married to Sabrenia Windham in 1983, and had two sons. He also has a younger son. Reunited with his sweetheart Venda Phelps from his college days, they have been married for the last six years. Preceded in death by father, Fred Hicks Sr.; spouse, Sabriena Windham-Hicks; maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents; several uncles/aunts. Survived by wife, Venda Hicks; sons, Fred Hicks III, (Erica), Stephan L. Hicks Sr. (Rebecca) & Alexander Hicks; stepdaughter, Keesa Julius; many grands; mother, Amanda Blue Hicks; siblings, Gainey Hicks; sis Constance Haywood, Bardine Hicks. Visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home Nov. 8th, 5-8 pm. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
