ALBERDING, Gilbert Eugene 82, on Aug. 11, 2014, a gentle and passionate man passed from this earth. A dear husband, father and grandfather, Gilbert died after a long battle with multiple health related issues. An especially curious man, he always tried to understand and explain the world around him. Gilbert had a lifelong interest in science. After high school he joined the Army and with assistance from the GI bill Gilbert pursued his childhood interest earning a degree in chemistry from Bradley University. He later worked at the Citrus station in Lake Alfred. In 1963, as part of a work based exchange program Gilbert would meet his wife, Friederike in Wiesbaden, Germany. Upon returning to the United States he graduated from law school and practiced patent law for over 30 years. The majority of his career was with Ball Corporation in Muncie, IN. Gilbert, a humble man, had many interests. His hobbies spanned from chess, Asian languages, painting to mathematics and physics. He was always optimistic and had a great sense of humor. Gilbert shared his love of literature, music, and art with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his time in retirement with his wife and brother, Frank. Gilbert is survived by his wife; his son, Gilbert R. (Jenny); along with his cherished grandchildren, Ingrid and Karl. Also surviving are his sisters, Ruth Ann Alberding and Shirley Pett-inger (William). He is preceded in death by his brother, Frank Alberding. Gilbert elected not to have a funeral; however a memorial service is being planned at a later date. National Cremation Society
