WILLIAMS, Jack Yates age 89, of St. Petersburg, passed away Dec. 29, 2012. Jack was born in Augusta, IL, in 1923. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corp in Africa and Europe where he married the higher ranking Army nurse Lt. Ruth Lesher. Jack and Ruth return to Champaign, IL, where Jack graduated from the University of Illinois in Architectural Engineering. In 1955, Jack came to St. Petersburg as VP of Florida Builders, and developers of Meadowlawn and other projects throughout the area. He was a Contractor and Real Estate Broker. In 1960, he was elected President of the Contractors & Builders Association. He later served many years as Director of St. Petersburg Progress (currently the Downtown Partnership) helping establish a new era of Downtown Development through the 1960's & 1970's. Jack is survived by his daughters, Liz Wallace (Tom); Linda Malogrides (Craig); son; James (Cindy); grandchildren, Jana, Matt (Sarah), Michael (Ariel), Samantha (Ryan) and Max; great-grandsons, Avery & Wyatt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa.
